With so much more time spent at home, now is a great time to attend to those things you never really have time for. Decluttering is one example. For many though, it can be a daunting task which is why we suggest you begin one room at a time. Even better, one closet at a time!
So in this blog post we share a few tips on organising your closet.
Tips to organising your closet during lockdown
- Deep clean
Start by emptying your entire closet. Yes, the whole thing! This means that nothing will be forgotten in a back corner somewhere. It also gives you a great opportunity to clean all of the shelves, rods and walls of your closet. Use cleaning detergent to get rid of any dirt or dust. Once you are done, a great idea is to use scented lining papers in your drawers or shelves to keep your clothes smelling fresh.
- Categorise your clothes
Separate your clothes into categories. All your jackets in one pile, all your jeans in the next. This will be easier to go through when deciding what to keep and what to donate. It also means that you can compare what you have and perhaps what you may need to get for spring and the upcoming summer. When packing your clothes back into your cupboard, try to store them in these categories. It will help saving time when you’re trying to find something.
- Eyelevel
To saving some time down the line, try to keep your most worn items at eyelevel. This will not only help you to priorities your clothing but it will also make you more aware of the items of clothing that you’re not really wearing.
- Seasonal
With the change of season fast approaching, it’s time to say farewell to the chunky winter outfits. Pack your winter clothes into labelled boxes. Once you’re done, consider self storage as a space to store them to make more space in your home.
