Storage King has joined The Royal British Legion’s ‘Thank You’ project, alongside the Self Storage Association UK and other self storage stores across the country, in a campaign focused on commemorating the centenary of WW1 and highlighting women’s dedication and involvement in the war.

This new focus for the Royal British Legion is a “Wave of Gratitude for the Forgotten Women of the Great War”, which ties in with the Royal British Legion’s campaign dedicated to remembering the normal Britons that helped in the war effort. This includes the individuals that supported it from home rather than serving directly.

August marks the start of the nationwide Wave of Gratitude, a campaign that will last 100 days with each day representing a year since the end of hostilities. It will conclude on Armistice Day, 11 November.

One of the key ambitions of The Royal British Legion is to highlight the contribution of the whole First World War generation. Women played an essential role in the war effort by seizing the opportunity to prove their worth and take another step towards getting the vote. Each and every one of them deserves our thanks.

As part of this project, we will be hanging large banners at select stores showcasing and acknowledging local forgotten women from the war, but they need your help. We need you to nominate women from Crewe, Derby, Doncaster and Dudley who you believe played a key role in the war and should be remembered. Help us to share the stories of those who may have been lost to history.

We are asking local communities to share their stories of women who held together a nation torn apart by war, with the aim of recognising and commemorating the courage, determination and resilience of these women.

The most inspiring memories will be shared on these large banners at Storage King CreweDerby Doncaster and Dudley stores between 8 August and 11 November. The banners will feature a photo of a forgotten woman from the war, a brief outline of who she was, or is, and what she did during the war.

We are excited to be involved in publicly sharing and remembering the incredible stories of courage and bravery that played such a vital role in the war. The determination of women during this time resulted in a turning point for their independence.

All nominations should be sent to [email protected].
