Football is more than a game. Throughout history, the sport has helped shape generations, guiding youth on the right path and providing them with the skills and support to succeed. But not everyone has had the opportunity to reap the benefits of this great game. Fortunately, in the town of Harrogate, there’s one club changing that. Establishing a club for all, Killinghall Nomads is making the sport more inclusive and accessible.
Formed in 1987, Killinghall Nomads is an established junior football club firmly rooted in the Harrogate community. The club is widely known for its inclusive approach to football, which propelled the formation of two girl’s groups at under 12 and 16, and a pan-disability group for players with additional needs. With the support of experienced coaches and interactive training sessions, the players at Killinghall Nomads have been able to build confidence and make lasting friendships.
The club has also received numerous awards for its stellar performances over the years. In 2022, the Killinghall Nomads Under 15 Girls played in the Harrogate and Craven Junior Girls League and finished the season in 1st place out of eight teams. “I am immensely proud to be part of the girls’ football journey at Killinghall Nomads,” says Daryl Naylor, Killinghall Nomads U15 Girls Manager. “It has been fantastic to see their development over the years, and also to see how much enjoyment they get out of the game.”
Now well into the first season of the year, the Under 15 Girls team is looking forward to another win. “A longer-term goal would be to see one or more of the team playing professional football and maybe even emulating Rachel Daly (who began her football experience playing for Killinghall Nomads in becoming an England player and World Cup winner,” says Daryl.
