Deep cleaning your furniture

Clean Sofa Dog

It goes without saying that during the winter months we spend a lot more time indoors. With lockdown 2.0 now in play, we are spending even more time at home!

So, how can you make the most of your time at home? One of the best habits to introduce during lockdown is to keep your home space clean and tidy. This will reduce frustration and help to keep your mind clear. As we embrace Netflix or other streaming platforms, we are more likely to spend a lot more time on our sofas, which means they are probably going to need a bit more TLC to keep them in a clean state!

Here are a few tips on keeping your sofa clean and dust free. Your allergies will thank you!

Wash blankets and pillows

Blankets and pillows can make your couch especially cosy, but they also hold onto a lot of dirt. The first step to getting your sofa and armchairs clean is to throw their snuggly counterparts into the machine. Just make sure that you read the instructions for proper care.

Vacuum

Use a vacuum to remove the dust and debris from the surface. Make sure that you get to all the nooks and crannies where crumbs love to hide. If you have pets in the home, then you can use a lint roller to get rid of the pet hair.

Read the label

The fabric type of the furniture’s upholstery will help you work out the treatment that it needs. Read the label to find out the best practices. If you can’t find a label, then a quick Google search will help guide you in the right direction. Make sure that you familiarise yourself with the cleaning codes so that you follow the instructions properly.

Get to cleaning

The materials that you use will depend largely on the fabric of the upholstery. A popular option that works with a variety of fabrics is baking soda. Sprinkling the baking soda on the couch and brushing it off with a stiff cloth after 20 minutes helps remove grime and dirt.

Other methods to remove stains include commercial cleaners as well as home-based ingredients such as vinegar. If you have a steam cleaner, now would be the time to use it.

Dry properly

If your sofa got wet during the cleaning process, then it’s important to let it dry out properly. You can use a towel to soak up excess water and then let it air dry before returning your fluffed up pillows and kicking back.

Get a professional

If a DIY furniture cleaning undertaking is not your cup of tea, then there are plenty of professional cleaning companies that are happy to take the job off of your hands.
