A guide to refresh your home office space

Posted: 24 November 2020

24 November Home Office Space

If there is one thing 2020 has taught us, it’s how to adapt to a new way of life. From lockdowns and closed venues, to working and educating your little ones from home, we’ve all had to adapt in some shape or form. One new way of life for many of us is working from home, which can get a bit stagnant after a while if we don’t mix things up a little.

Here are a few tips to freshen up your home workspace and increase your productivity.

Move to a separate room

If your home is big enough, then you may want to relocate your office space to another room (if you haven’t already). If you are limited to space, you can simply move your work area and face a different direction. This small change of scenery can make a big difference in productivity.

Let your wall inspire you

An ordinary wall can be transformed into a bit of inspiration with a new lick of paint or a piece of wallpaper. Rather than looking up to a plain, white canvas each day, you can have a creative print or a bright accent wall. Another good option is to hang a corkboard on the wall or a pinboard to place some motivation or notes.

Spread a rug

With winter almost upon us, try adding a rug to the floor of your workspace to bring in some warmth and introduce a new dynamic.

Go green!

Houseplants are a great way to add life to a room. Peacock plants, dumb canes and dragon trees all require low-light to thrive and are very easy to grow. Make a little bit of space on your desk or prop them on a windowsill and enjoy the colourful mood that they add to the room.

Include soft edges

There are several ways to get rid of hard edges and introduce a bit of your personality to the room. Prop a colourful pillow to your chair, throw a piece of patterned fabric over the table or add some flowers to your desk. You’ll be surprised by how much joy these small changes can bring.

Get organised

In the office, there are systems in place to keep the space organised. You might not have brought this system home as yet, so take the time now to file your work and keep your space organised. This will make the area feel clean and uncluttered.

Declutter

It’s not always easy to concentrate when there are unnecessary items taking up space and causing clutter. As the saying goes, a cluttered space is a cluttered mind, so clear out unnecessary items and simplify your working space. If you don’t have space to store these items at home, consider keeping them in a safe and secure storage unit.

Give these tips a go and you’ll soon see the difference they can make in your home.
