Two-Tonne Van Pull for Storage King Woodley Fundraiser

Posted: 01 August 2017

Early last month, storage customers at Storage King’s Reading and Woodley branch were witnesses to an impressive sight taking place on the site’s carpark – Brett Le Cras, assistant manager at Woodley, was preparing himself to haul a 2.5-tonne removal van across 15 metres, using nothing but sheer strength and dedication to get him over the finish line, all in aid of raising money for Storage King’s official partner charity, Rays of Sunshine.

Two and a half tonnes, if you need help imagining it, is about the equivalent of trying to shift five grizzly bears in one go. Or six fully-grown horses. Or two-thirds of a hippopotamus. It’s heavy – and probably not something most of us would be eager to undertake!

Having competed in both local and national Strongest Man championships, Brett is no stranger to displays of strength, but this particular task, he says, was “a personal challenge”. Strapped in with a harness and a tow rope attached to the front of the van, and with the cheers of both colleagues and customers to encourage him, Brett managed to complete this impressive feat in under 30 seconds, crossing the finish line with barely a sweat broken.

Storage King launched its official charity partnership back in 2015 with Rays of Sunshine, a children’s charity that grants wishes for children across the UK who live with a serious or life-limiting disease, and have been supporting the charity ever since. Brett, who has a background in competitive powerlifting, said the van pull was “an ideal event to raise money for a worthwhile cause,” and has so far managed to raise well over £200.
