Spring is in the air and after spending a large part of the pandemic indoors, it’s time to venture out and get some fresh air. If you live in and around Mitcham, then there are plenty of fun activities to enjoy in the outdoors.

Located less than an hour from London, Mitcham offers a tranquil escape from the big city. The family-friendly area has plenty of lush, green spaces and great places to grab a bite to eat. Here are a few suggestions on springtime activities to enjoy in Mitcham and the surrounding area.

Morden Hall Park

Morden Hall Park prides itself as being a park at the heart of the community. As a dog-friendly park, it’s the perfect place to walk your pooch across the 125 acres of beautiful parkland. As the season turns, there’s also a burst of life as birds hatch and flowers bloom, making the area particularly beautiful.

Kayak on Wandle River

Although considered a smaller body of water, Wandle River has a strong flow, making it perfect for a kayaking experience. The river can be explored by kayak or canoe, as long as you pay attention to the low bridges! Kayaking on the Wandle River is a great family experience.

Stroll around the Common

If you’re looking for a place to stretch your legs, take the dog (or children) for a walk, and enjoy a beautiful natural setting, then Mitcham Common is a great choice. The area is full of wildlife, walking routes and birds. If you want to make an event of it, then you can pack a picnic and relax by the Seven Islands Pond.

Richmond Park

If you live in Mitcham and want a change of scenery, then you can drive half an hour outside the area to Richmond Park, an area that is known for its wildlife conservation efforts. As the largest of London’s Royal Parks, it includes beautiful historical buildings to explore, bicycles to hire, fishing with a paid permit, horse riding and running trails.

There are plenty of other activities to enjoy as the pandemic loosens restrictions. For example, the Mitcham Golf Club will open its doors to visitors toward the end of lockdown, so it’s almost time to dust off your golf clubs!
