The holiday season is upon us and it’s time to pack your bags and go on an adventure. Whether you’re planning a staycation and booking into an Airbnb in the nearby countryside, or taking a trip overseas to enjoy the southern hemisphere summer, it’s time to unwind and relax.
Once you’ve booked your tickets and organised a dog sitter, it’s time to pack your bags. With the following packing tips, you’ll be able to fit everything into your suitcase so that you can enjoy your holiday with everything that you need.
1. Use travel-size toiletries
Buying in bulk may save money in the long run, but it can take up a lot of space in your suitcase. Invest in travel-size bottles and decant your toiletries into smaller sizes. Bulky shampoo bottles and large tubs of body lotion can be downsized dramatically, reducing the amount of space that they take up in your luggage.
2. Travel in layers
Winter clothes tend to take up the most space in your luggage, so layer up when travelling. Wear your heaviest shoes and bring your bulkiest jacket for the trip, making space in your suitcase for more items.
3. Roll your clothing
Did you know that rolled up clothes take up less space than folded clothing? This economic way of packing has taken the world by storm (although military personnel have known this trick for a while). As an added bonus, rolled clothes tend to have fewer creases!
4. Order your belongings
It’s easier to squeeze an extra shirt into your suitcase than stuff another pair of jeans into an available nook. Begin by packing your heavier items, such as jeans and towels, at the bottom of your suitcase. Then, you can add lighter, more delicate items on top.
5. Use packing cubes
Packing cubes help to keep belongings grouped together in a neat and orderly way. They are also used as nifty separators, keeping smaller items in a single space.
